Greene Espel and co-counsel Watkins & Eager have filed a class action lawsuit in the Southern District of Mississippi against the directors of the Mississippi Windstorm Underwriting Association. The Association is a mandatory insurance pool that acts as the insurer of last resort for the Mississippi counties hardest hit by Hurricane Katrina. The Complaint alleges that, in order to save themselves money, the directors — themselves major national insurance companies — subjected members of the Association to unreasonable risk and catastrophic damages by causing the Association to purchase inadequate reinsurance.
