Greene Espel PLLP congratulates Bob Gilbertson on his appointment to the state’s Commission on Judicial Selection to represent the third judicial district.

The Commission on Judicial Selection is committed to providing equal access to the judicial selection process for all interested individuals. To that end, the Commission evaluates and recommends candidates to the Governor for vacancies in the District Courts and the Workers’ Compensation Court of Appeals. The 26 appointees—selected by Governor Walz, Lieutenant Governor Flanagan, and members of the Supreme Court—include six at-large members and 20 district members. 49 members serve on the commission. Each member of the commission will serve a 4-year term that will end on January 2, 2023.

“We’re lucky in Minnesota to have a very strong judiciary,” Bob noted. “A lot of states have seen politics invade the process of putting judges on the bench, but we’ve had blessedly little of that in our state.  Governors of both parties have taken the process seriously and have relied heavily on the Commission’s merit-based approach.  I’m honored to do my part to continue that tradition.”

Bob Gilbertson is an experienced trial lawyer who has successfully handled litigation and arbitrations across the United States. He has tried cases to verdict in all of these areas and has handled cases involving intellectual property, commercial disputes, insurance, industrial catastrophes, and products liability in 30 states around the country.
